“That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.”

John 1:5 (CSB)

Dearest Reader,

I had placed great hope in today’s promise of warmth and sunshine only to open the door to another dreary and gray day; a light mist is falling over us. A weight dropped on my soul, oppressive and hopeless, the pain in my body increased a thousand watts. My attitude, well, let’s say it went to a dark place.

I soon became a petulant child before the Lord, temper tantrum, foot stomping, near tears. The still small voice in my heart whispered the words:

“In the beginning was the the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.” John 1:1-5 (CSB)

I stepped outside and snapped a picture, treasuring the gift of light God whispered into my soul. As I looked toward the darkened sky, mist dampened my face; I caught the wooden cross in our backyard. Holy week, when for a time all goes dark and hopeless as the Messiah breathed his last breath, hanging on a wooden cross. A sealed tomb, the darkened corner where death was overcome. Hope lies in an empty tomb.

Light shines in our darkest places.

This is how we thrive in our hard places; The Light shining in us and through us, lighting up a dark world.

The heaviness in my chest lifted as I said the words:

That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.” John 1:1 (CSB)

Darkness will try to invade my hard days. We can choose to give in to the dark or we can choose The Light.

The Light Is where we will thrive in our brokenness and pain.

Father, I pray today for the broken and weary suffering in their pain, that you would shine your light into their dark places. I ask that you would open their eyes to see You, to see Your Light. Without You, we are nothing. Thank you for Your Light.
