“Making a place for things that matter means I must create space.”

Tammy L Mashburn – Gifts of Grace

Happy Friday Dear Reader!

I’m blessed to have you join me on this journey!

It’s Five Minute Friday, the day where I join Kate Motaung and others, writing on a one word prompt.

Today’s word: PLACE

Some months ago, my Sweet Man and I, heaved and tugged, hauling home two broken down picnic tables. When I gazed at the splintered broken places, the boards that needed replacing, the bareness of weathered wood; I saw beauty, good bones, and a solidness.

I have yet to do that. The tables need work. I’ve not one flower planted other than the sunflowers the birds gifted me with. I’ve looked around at the barrenness and found it lacking somehow. Unworthy even. I think to myself, once we have the tables repaired and painted pretty. Once we have cultivated plants and beauty. In truth, the beauty lies in the bareness of our Wilderness Place. The barrenness creates space to gather. Wide open space.

Beautiful sunrises, delightful nature songs, a place to sit and give your soul space to breathe.

When pride rears it’s ugly head, I miss the very thing I am longing for. I peer through the window, see the empty tables, the empty spaces, and realize a good dose of humility is needed to gather people around the tables.

I don’t need to create a perfect space, in fact, we know there is nothing perfect here, this side of Heaven.

To create this place to gather, I only need to let go of pride. Comparison. Envy. The longing for things I don’t have.

None of that matters. The most important thing is the hearts that will gather here. The hearts that may be nurtured in this place.

A place where God has tended and nurtured me. I long to gather you here. Long to hear your stories, share your burdens, share life with you.

“Endings are better than beginnings.” Ecclesiastes 7:8a The MSG

Gifts of Grace,

I’m blessed to serve you in this place, to share with you the Gifts of Grace as I journey through the wilderness. I picture you across the table, hands wrapped tightly around your cup, sharing life, and laughter, and tears. As I share with you, my own daily struggles, I long to hear what yours may be. Sharing the realness of life. You can do that by commenting below or reaching out to me here.
