“The rhythm of sitting on swings does good work, a reminder that we are tethered even as we sway.”

Emily P. Freemon-Simply Tuesday

Dear Readers,

This month has found my heart beating somewhere between my stomach and my throat. We’ve been juggling the unholy hard with unfolding grace. I wake each morning, coffee in hand, and listen to this song. Begging, crying, for a faith that says, “Even if you don’t I will still choose You.” The stories, the words are lodged deep in my soul to be shared later. What I can tell you now is this, “He is faithful.”

He is faithful when the answers seem all wrong or don’t come at all. He is faithful in the good and the bad. He is in the fire with us and never leaves us alone. When faced with the unholy hard, He walks with us. And when we can no longer walk, He will carry us.

We are preparing for a trip to the mountains. We’ll enjoy a week of rest and time with family. We’ll breath in sweet mountain laurels, drink coffee outside, and just be. There’s a time for this, the just being. A time to refresh and refill ourselves. Time for rhythms of quiet and rest.

They’re will be lightening bugs and we’ll turn the clock face down. I. Can’t. Wait. I’ve packed a stack of books, an extra journal, and plenty of white tees (smile). Lola has been trimmed and bathed, decked out in her Americana bandana ready for the Fourth of July Parade.

I hope you have scheduled some time for rest and to just be. Rhythms of quiet.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
