It’s Friday, my favorite day of the week! I am looking forward to a weekend curled up by the tree with several good reads. In the meantime, I’m joining Kate Motaung and others for Five Minute Friday.
Today’s word: Crave
For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.
1John 2:16 NLT
When I think of crave, I think of the mistakes I have made. Each of them strongly reek of craving, reek of life lived deeply and selfishly rooted in my cravings. Feeding my cravings.
Whether it was a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything I see, or pride in my achievements and possessions. Most every painful part of my past has been a consequence of feeding these things.
We live in a society where not only can we feed these cravings in an instant, we are bombarded with them. With more, more, and more. Quick fixes, easy access, on demand, the list goes on and on.
We are in a season where more is expected and demanded. Pushed to buy more, do more, be more.
Fighting the world, fighting the enemy of our soul, fighting our own weakness, it is a struggle. And I am weary of the battle.
How can I win? How can I overcome it?
Every unholy craving I chase?
What is the cost if not?
I cannot, we cannot, fight the battle on our own. We are not meant to.
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever~the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans.
John 14:16-18a NIV
We have a Savior, a Helper, a holy God, who loves and longs for his people to crave HIM.
That very craving planted in us, by Him, for Him. The longing to one day be reunited with our Heavenly Father.
In the meantime:
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.
Galatians 5:16 NLT

Gifts of Grace

We, humans, have a habit of feeding things that don’t serve us. This morning, I posted a piece about feeding our disappointments. Yes, if we follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance, we can serve something greater.

A beautiful and helpful reminder that unholy cravings do chase us and that God has given us the strength to not follow them but to follow Him. Easier said than done, of course, but such an important reminder to intentionally focus our cravings.
Peace.

I was on that same treadmill of more, more, and more every Christmas Season, striving to accomplish so much in too little time. Now that my life has become much slower, God is opening my heart to new ways of craving more of HIM. Thanks for lifting my heart today to see the good that is here in a place that sometimes feels less than I want it to be. Blessings!
Me too Bettie! Praise Him for showing me a new way!
