Welcome to From November to Advent, this month’s Coffee and Reflections.
Coffee and reflections is a monthly reflection on what has passed and what is to come, a regular coffee date between you and me.
Welcome to Coffee and Reflections, grab a cup and let’s share life!
Ah, Sweet November, your golden leaves and shorter days reach deep into my soul settling the rattling life has brought the past weeks.
My soul quieted as I slowly began to bring Christmas into our home. A slow transition; a small tree followed by the Manger Scene, one little thing led to the next, and I realized we had come to Advent. Advent, waiting in quiet anticipation for all the good our Father has for us if we are willing to receive.
The November Blur
November was a blur of sweet provision and God’s presence in unexpected places. Time moved fast as I scratched memories into my journal; things to record and remember for future days when doubt creeps in. You know the days when your faith wobbles and still, you cling to God with every ounce of strength you possess.
How does so much sweetness come in the hard edges of life?
Sweet One, it is the only way, even when you are in the midst of The Wilderness, dry as broomsedge on a hot southern day.
How Do I know?
The Wilderness is where I reside, and I suspect you may have a bit of wilderness in your life today. The unknowns, the unanswered questions, the wrestling in the uncertainties.
“Intimacy with God has its own spring shoots–an internal, connected presence that comforts in the midnight hour of sorrow, the sense of unconditional love wrapping you like a blanket.”
The Luckiest Man by John R. Paine with Seth Haines
The Wilderness is where intimacy is sown and harvested. It’s the place where I have grown closer to God through depravity and deep need.
“Therefore, I am going to persuade her, lead her to the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her.” Hosea 2:14 CSB
Abandonment does not come in the wilderness. Instead, you have been led there by God who longs for deeper intimacy with you.
Moving gently towards Advent has brought stillness my soul has needed after the blur of November. I am sitting quietly in the moments, mining the treasures and pondering The Gift.
I pray today you are wrapped in the unconditional love of God.
