Coffee and Reflections: a monthly account of looking back, counting the gifts of grace, and reflection.

Dearest Readers,

Pull up a chair and let’s share a cup of coffee. Coffee and Reflections is a monthly account of looking back, counting the gifts of grace, and reflection.

“Only be on your guard and diligently watch yourselves, so that you don’t forget the things your eyes have seen and so that they don’t slip from your mind as long as you live. Teach them to your children and your grandchildren.” Deuteronomy 4:9 (CSB)

I share these reflections with you, though they are mostly for me. In the sharp edges of life, I want to remember, to reflect, and look back at God’s faithfulness to me.

My teenage granddaughters are fascinated with my journals, the journals and this monthly reflection is for them to have someday as well. If I leave no other legacy but this: it is for them to know that God is faithful even when life stinks.

Camp Karen

Several weeks ago my two teenage granddaughters came to spend the week. Cousins, seven months apart in age from two different states and me. How it came to be Camp Karen is their story to share and maybe one day they will.

We crowded together in my bathroom each day and put our makeup on, talked and giggled late into the night. We did the town, dressing up and eating out. There were multiple (maybe more) trips to Spill the Beans for fancy coffee drinks and ice cream. The M&M’s-I lovingly refer to them as-gave my Sweet Man and me the best surprise anniversary celebration complete with flowers, brownies, and music, where we giggled ourselves silly dancing to golden oldies. Nanna and Papa may have surprised them with a move or two!  We had an impromptu concert complete with hairbrushes as microphones!

A New View

I moved my office space into our den where I have more light and openness. Being somewhat homebound, I occasionally feel closed in and crave open space. Trading space with my Sweet Man has been the perfect solution.

Sometimes this word girl needs a new view to spark creativity.

What I’ve Been Reading

I have been reading Stacey Thacker’s soon to be released When Grace Walks In.

When Grace Walks In is based on Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, it is Stacey’s second book in The Girlfriends Guide To The Bible and is available for pre-order now.

“When you draw near to Jesus and listen to the truth of his Word, he deposits something into the very core of who you are that can’t be taken away. It’s not a temporary fix or Band-Aid placed over a gaping wound. His Word, when it falls on soft hearts, changes us. It prepares us. It encourages us. Choosing to sit at his feet is never a waste of time. It is truly an encounter with grace.”

Friends, You are going to want to read this book!

The Scripture That God Has Been Whispering In My Ear

Habakkuk is my favorite minor prophet, his “even if” faith is something I long to have.

Habakkuk has been an essential part of my story. Recently, in my quiet time, God has been whispering Habakkuk’s words in my ear:

“The Lord God is my strength (my  source of courage, my invincible army);

He has made my feet (steady and sure) like hind’s feet

And makes me walk (forward with spiritual confidence) on my high places of (challenge and responsibility). Habakkuk 3:19 (Amplified Version)

My heart tells me this is provision for what I have not yet seen. Until then, I will lean into God, listening and waiting.

These are, but a few Gifts of Grace July has given me. I invite you to share a few of yours in the comments below.
