In him you also – when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you also believed – were sealed in him with the promised Holy Spirit.

 Ephesians 1:13 (CSB)

Dearest Readers,
When I read the word sealed, I am taken back in time. Days of driving my children to school, Puff the Magic Dragon playing in the background, all three of us singing loud, and off-key.
“Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
in a land called Honnah Lee
Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff
And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff, oh!”
Puff the Magic Dragon – written and sang by Peter, Paul, and Mary
Little Jackie Paper loved Puff and brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. Sealing wax was used to seal letters in envelopes, often imprinted with a dignitary’s signet ring or family seal. Wax seals were important, letting you know who sent the letter. (Now, I know the real and original message of this song but my kids and I sang it innocently without knowledge or malice!)
Today, as believers, we too have been sealed. Did you know this?
In him you also – when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you also believed – were sealed in him with the promised Holy Spirit. Ephesians 1:13 (CSB)
When you believed, when you invited Jesus into your heart and life and received salvation, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit. Take a moment and let that settle in the barren and hurting places of your heart.
I looked up the word sealed used in this particular passage. According to Strong’s Greek, it signifies ownership, authorizing, to set a mark upon. It is a picture of validation.
When we are sealed with Christ, we cannot be snatched out of his hand. We are His. We belong to something, someone, The God of the Universe.
Can I tell you I wasted many years searching for my identity? Placing it in my worth as a woman, a wife, a mother. Comparing myself to others. Feeling as if I wasn’t enough to be sealed by a gracious, loving Father.  Can you relate?
I believe there is a connection to living from a place of being sealed in Christ and living in and from His Word. If not, how can we even know these treasures? How can we find and place our identity in Christ?
How can we learn and know the character of God? Who He is, how much we are loved.
How can we recognize His presence, His whispers into our soul, without going to His Word?
I am sealed by Christ. If you are a believer, You are sealed with Christ. Let’s be intentional in living from this place of belonging to Christ. Belonging to our Heavenly Father, who loves us so.
