Would it have made difference If Jesus had had his brother’s support?
“James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ”
James 1:1 (CSB)
Today’s word: SUPPORT
I have to tell you for a bit, I was blank until a Sister reminded me of James. James, the brother of Jesus. James, who describes himself as, “a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
James, who is thought not to have believed his brother was the Messiah, the Chosen One until Jesus had been resurrected.
Once he believed, his words take me to my knees, “James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
I would like to believe that if I had grown up in the same house as Jesus, the Son of God, I would have believed. I would’ve followed him around, hanging onto his every word. Begging at night for one more bedtime story.
A certain death. A burial. An empty tomb. Tangible proof.
I wonder how different their relationship might have been had Jesus had the support of his brothers and sisters? That question brings to mind our own messy family situations. The squabbles, hurtful words, or perhaps denial that our loved one even exists, much less sharing life and ministry.
I can think of no better pleasure than to share life with my own family.
To share life, have the support of my brothers and sisters in Christ is a gift to be treasured. To share ministry with family would be grace upon grace.
I have to wonder if James’ ministry was fueled by sorrow and regret. Fueled by what stood before his very eyes, and he missed it. As I often miss Him. Miss him in the ordinary of my days.
