The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.”

Psalms 32:8 (NLT)

Good Morning Dearest Reader,

The windows are open, a breeze blows through refreshing everything in her path. We are headed into a patch of weather in these parts I consider near perfection. I hope you will grab a cup of coffee and join me this morning for Five Minute Friday.

Today’s word: Guide

***

My first thought, the Israelites, their pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night. I confess to you, I’m a bit jealous of them. Sent into the wilderness and given a personal guide. Not just any guide mind you, but the Guide. God, the creator of the universe, creator of me and you.

On the run from the Egyptians, The Lord went ahead of the Israelites, making a way. Protecting them.

The Lord went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and he provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night. And the Lord did not remove the pillar of cloud or pillar of fire from its place in front of the people.  Exodus 13:21&22 (NLT)

I know the wilderness, know it well. I’m thinking you may know a bit about it yourself. I’ve spent moments gazing into my life, searching for the pillar of cloud or the pillar of light.

Like the Israelites, I have wandered in circles, peering at the negatives, the unholy hard, overlooking The Guide. Overlooking my Guide. No, we don’t have the pillar of cloud nor the pillar of fire, but we have something better.

We have his Word. His Word, a guide to all things and for all things. Every answer you will ever need is between these pages. The comfort you crave, between these pages. The love you long for, between these pages. The belonging you are missing, between these pages.

But if you fail to open them, fail to search the words, you have missed the pillar of cloud. The pillar of fire.

As long as they stay closed, you will miss it. You will miss Him. Miss His guidance, His love, your belonging in Him, your identity in Him.

The secret to everything you are longing for lies between these pages.

Just as the Israelites had a guide, you have a guide.

“The more time we spend in the Bible, the more familiar we become with God’s voice.”

Denise J. Hughes – Deeper Waters

He gave us these words as our guide. Are we using it?
