Today’s word: TRY
“I can anticipate the response that is coming: “I know that all God’s commands are spiritual, but I’m not. Isn’t this also your experience?” Yes. I’m full of myself-after all, I’ve spent a long time in sin’s prison. What I don’t understand about myself is that I decide one way, but then I act another, doing things I absolutely despise. So If I can’t be trusted to figure out what is best for myself and then do it, it becomes obvious that God’s command is necessary.”
Romans 7:14-16 The Message
I can relate to Paul’s words, “I decide one way and then I act another, doing things I absolutely despise.” If we are honest, how many of us feel the same? Live the same? Doing the things we despise, not doing the things we need to do, or living in accordance with God’s Word and His will for us?
On my own, on our own, we will flounder, even wallow, in a sinful life. I don’t know where you are, but I can tell you, I have been there, and it was ugly.
How do I live in a fallen, sinful world, and be a better person?
I must die to self. Become low, become less, make space for Jesus to become greater in me.
John 3:30 (NLT) He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.
To even try, takes intentional, daily, “housecleaning.” Sweeping out my desires, replacing them with God’s desires.
A daily plugging into the Power Source. His Word, time in intentional prayer, confession, and renewal of spirit. His spirit which lives in me.
I can try, you can try, but at the end of the day, we need help.
In my own strength, I am weak, but in His strength, I am strong.
Philippians 4:13 (NLT) For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

Just as The Message says, it becomes obvious, God’s commands are necessary.
